Speaking of international salsa, this was another group that blew me away. Salsa Celtica represents salsa out of Scotland, of all places. Can you believe it? It doesn't seem like bagpipes and bongos would mix very well. In fact, I was skeptical when I first heard about it. But damned if they didn't pull it off!
Whereas Orquesta de la Luz just played straight up salsa, what I love about Celtica is that they managed to successfully blend it with musical elements from their own culture. That not only informs salsa as a musical form, but also expands it. I'm going to have to go hunt down the video for Salsa Rai now to keep this international journey rolling.
