New Hector Lavoe Movie with Marc Anthony and J-Lo
Filed Oct 04, 2006 at 3:18 AM ·
(second story down) Hector Lavoe served as both an inspiration and a warning to Marc Anthony.
Anthony, the singer and husband of Jennifer Lopez, plays old-school salsa star Lavoe in the upcoming biopic ``El Cantante.'' Lavoe is credited with bringing salsa to the United States before dying in 1993 at age 46 after struggling with drug addiction.
``He painted this clear picture of what you could be if you put your mind to it, but how painful a life you could live if you made the wrong choices,'' Anthony told The Associated Press as he kicked off a concert tour in San Juan.

Jimmy Bosch in San Fran this Sunday
Filed Sep 28, 2006 at 3:39 PM ·
Over the past quarter-century, he has provided a sonic punch to ensembles led by Eddie Palmieri, Ray Barretto, Cachao, Celia Cruz, Rubén Blades, Willie Colón and Oscar D'Leon. When musical tastes changed in the mid-'80s with the rise of ballad-driven salsa romantica, Bosch stayed true to the improvisation-laced, rhythmically assertive style. Now he is front and center as the old-school salsa sound reasserts itself. [Ed: Salsa dura > Salsa Monga]
